SBU’s Director of Athletics steps down

June 9, 2009 By admin

Southwest Baptist University Director of Athletics Brent Good announced his resignation on Monday following four seasons of overseeing Bearcats athletics.  Good along with SBU President Dr. Pat Taylor released statements. Good was most recently in the news for firing his soccer coach Ben Wade after he left the team for several weeks to film the TV Show Survivor.

"I am resigning as the director of athletics at Southwest Baptist University effective July 2, 2009. After 32 years in college athletics, I believe it is time for me to pursue other opportunities. I am very proud of the accomplishments of SBU athletics, and I will continue to support SBU from the sidelines and stands as much as possible.

SBU President Dr. Pat Taylor praised Good for his solid work in raising the standards of SBU athletic teams.  "When Brent became the athletic director, he set a goal of SBU athletics finishing in the top 100 among all NCAA Division II schools. During the 2007-08 academic year, SBU finished 67th in Director’s Cup points. This year we are currently ranked 78th in the nation. This is a great testimony to Brent’s hard work in improving all of our sports programs.  During Brent’s tenure we have had more MIAA championships and post-season appearances than at any other time in our history. We have had several teams receive national recognition by attaining NCAA regional and national rankings. We have had All-Americans and academic All-Americans and a national record set for pass receptions in all football divisions."
