Cards Sweep Cubs

May 22, 2009 By admin Leave a Comment

The St. Louis Cardinals completed a three-game series sweep of the rival Chicago Cubs with a 3-1 victory Thursday afternoon at Busch Stadium.

Adam Wainwright came within one out of a complete game in picking up the victory.  The Cardinals starter gave up five hits and one run with a walk and seven strikeouts to improve to 4-2 on the year.  Ryan Franklin recorded the final out to nail down his 11th save.

Albert Pujols smashed his 14th homer of the season, hitting the "I" in the "BIG MAC" sign at Busch Stadium.

Brian Barden also went deep for St. Louis,  who outscored Chicago 8-2 in the sweep.
