The top-seeded Central Missouri baseball Mules dropped a rain-delayed contest to third-seeded Angelo State, 6-3 on Saturday at the NCAA-II South Central Regional, but came back to eliminate No. 5 Nebraska-Omaha 14-1 later in the day.

Central Missouri (43-14) advanced to the final three of the regional to face the only undefeated team left in fourth-seeded Emporia State at 12:00 p.m.

The rain-delayed contest with the Rams started on Friday at 3:55 p.m., and was delayed two times due to lightning before getting postponed to the next morning at 11 a.m. The Mules trailed 3-1 going into the next day. UCM allowed three runs in the top of the eighth, thanks to three hit batters, two wild pitches, and two walks.

The Mules tried to mount a comeback in the bottom half, but could only scrape together a couple runs on a sacrifice fly by Matt LaGree and an RBI single by Stewart Hoover. The Mules stranded 10 runners in the game. Danny Potje took the hard luck loss, giving up only two runs.

Central Missouri finally got the offense going in the afternoon contest with UNO, smacking two solo homers in the first inning. The first was also a career first as freshman Bret Schwartz nailed a solo shot to right. Sophomore Jon Wegener tallied the first of his three RBI base hits with a solo shot to left a couple batters later. He would get RBI hits in his first three at-bats, and finished going 4-of-6 with three RBI and runs scored.

Central Missouri was up 12-0 before UNO could get on the board off starter Mitch Stubenhofer, who tossed a complete game, scattering 11 hits with no walks.

The Maverick pitching staff handed out 11 walks and hit two batters in the game. UCM pounded 13 hits, scoring in six different frames.

Central Missouri has to win two more games to claim the South Central Regional crown, as Emporia State and Angelo State are the only other two teams alive.
