It was not the kind of start Luke Hochevar expected.  After being unhittable at AAA Omaha, the Oakland A’s lit him up for eight runs on seven hits in just two innings.  Sidney Ponson then gave up four more in his two innings of work as the  Royals lose their fourth in a row, 12-3.

Hochevar admitted it was little too amped up before the game and couldn’t get command of any of his pitches.  Hochevar got knocked around in the second inning.  After a ground out and a walk, Hochevar gave up three straight hits.  A force out left runners on first with two out and three runs in.  Kurt Suzuki stole second, Hochevar walked his second batter of the inning and then a single by Matt Holiday and three run homer by Jack Cust blew the game open.

Ponson didn’t fare much better as he gave up a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings and that was all the offense the A’s would need, matching the number of runs they scored with the number of outs the Royals recorded.

Coco Crisp and Mike Jacobs hit solo homers for the Royals.
