The Missouri Southern Lions are headed to post season play for the first time since 2002 as Southern will kick off the 2009 MIAA Baseball Tournament against 11th ranked Central Missouri at noon on Friday, May 8 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City.

The  weather forecast  calls for partly cloudy skies and 69 for the game time temp.

It will be a tough go against the Mules who made it to last year’s D-II College World Series.  The University of Central Missouri baseball program has had unprecedented success in the last 20 years and has been even more impressive since 2000. UCM has a 498-111 overall record since 2000, the most wins of any program in NCAA Division I, II, or III.

In just the second year under head coach Bryce Darnell, the Missouri Southern Lions have advanced to the MIAA Postseason Tournament for the first time since 2002. The Lions and Mules split a doubleheader earlier this year in Warrensburg, Mo., with the Lions winning the second game 4-0 and snapping the Mules’ 162 consecutive games without being shutout.
