The Royals must have been salivating as they headed to Arlington, Texas for a weekend series against a Rangers’ pitching staff that had a 6.50 era.  They unloaded on that staff last night, pounding out 19 hits and winning 12-3.  Gil Meche pitched a gem, shutting out the Rangers through 6 innings to get his first win of the season.

On the offensive side, it would be easier to talk about who didn’t have a good day (David Dejesus was the only starter without a hit).  Mark Teahen was the biggest star, going  5-for-6 and ending up a triple shy of the cycle.  Coco Crisp and Mike Jacobs added home runs and Alberto Callaspo had a four hit night.

Teahen was at third base after Alex Gordon was put on the DL.  He’ll miss at least 10 weeks after having hip surgery Friday.  Replacing him on the roster is hot-hitting outfielder Mitch Maier, who was batting .370 in six games at AAA Omaha.

Game two of the series will pit Zack Greinke against Kevin Millwood.
