It wasn’t a great outing, but Adam Wainwright was effective enough to leave after six innings with score tied.  Key hits and good bullpen work give the Cardinals a 7-4 win in the opening game of this four game series with the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

A shaky afternoon for Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright.  He gave up a three run homer to Kosuke Fukodome in the bottom of the fifth inning at Wrigley Field after Chris Duncan hit a two run homer off Cubs starter Sean Marshall.  Cubs up 4-3 until the 6 th when Khalil Greene hit a solo home run.  Then Wainwright in trouble again in the bottom of the 6 th after Duncan dropped a fly ball.  Cubs had the bases loaded and one out and Wainwright worked out of the jam.   He went six innings giving up four runs on six hits and four walks.  Two out RBI hits from Yadier Molina and Duncan in the 7 th gave the Cards a 6-4 lead.  Brian Barden hit his second major league homer in the 8 th .

Ryan Franklin struck out two and got a tapper hit back to him to close the game out.
