David Backes scored four goals including the game winner in a wild third periods as the Blues bounced back from a 3-1 loss in Chicago the night before with a 5-4 win over the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night.

Backes broke a 4-4 tie with 4:07 left with his 30th goal of the season. Backes scored just 36 seconds after Detroit’s Niklas Kronwall tied it.  Andy McDonald also scored, and Chris Mason made 34 saves to help the Blues jump from ninth to eighth in the Western Conference playoff race.
