Gordon’s slam helps Royals tie Indians

March 4, 2009 By admin Leave a Comment

Alex Gordon cracked a grand slam off right-hander Edward Mujica in a seven-run fifth inning. Gordon was 2 for 3 and John Buck followed with his second spring homer and added an RBI double in the game.

Buck is now 5 for 9 this spring, after learning he would be the backup to Miguel Olivo.  Gordon broke out of a mini slump as well after starting the spring 1 for 9.  Coco Crisp also contributed with an RBI double and Willie Bloomquist had two singles and an RBI.

Zach Greinke got roughed up, giving up four runs on five hits, including two homers in his three innings. Robinson Tejeda had three strikeouts, but also walked three in his 1 1/3 innings. Making their spring debuts, Ron Mahay had a scoreless inning, but Kyle Farnsworth and Jimmy Gobble each gave up two runs in an inning.
