11-7 Mel.jpg Northwest Missouri State football coach Mel Tjeersdma, who has the most D-II playoff wins of any coach is a finalist for the University of Texas-San Antonio head coaching position.

The Roadrunners will begin play in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision in 2009, the first year the school will have football.  Also in the running for the head coaching position is Larry Coker, who was head coach at Miami from 2001-06 and Paul Randolph who was a defensive coordinator at Tulsa.

Tjeersdma has led the Bearcats to four straight Division II national championship football games in which Northwest lost all four games.  However, the Bearcats are two time national championships from 1998 and 1999.

UTSA athletic director Lynn Hickey says on the school’s website , "Our plan is to interview these three finalists over the next 10 days and then come to a decision shortly thereafter. As I have said previously during the search, it would not be appropriate for me to make any comments from this point forward until the announcement is made."
