Senate confirms Martinez as DED chief

February 10, 2009 By admin Leave a Comment

The State Senate has confirmed one of Governor Jay Nixon’s controversial cabinet appointments. On a voice vote, the Senate has given Linda Martinez the go-ahead to serve as Director of the Department of Economic Development.

The nomination had been held up by Senator Scott Rupp (R-Wentzville) over work Martinez had done for opponents of a Valley Park law cracking down on those hiring or renting space to illegal immigrants. Rupp wanted assurances from Martinez that she would work to ensure Mssouri’s laws dealing with illegal immigration are respected and enforced.
