SBU’s Matt Rogers has been named MIAA Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. Rogers, a 6-foot-11, 205-pound junior from Doniphan, Mo., averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocked shots as the No. 6 Bearcats clinched a spot in the MIAA Championship Tournament and moved into a first-place tie in the conference with two wins last week.

He scored 27 points with five rebounds and three blocks in an 81-67 home win over Pittsburg State Tuesday (Feb. 3). Rogers was 14-of-19 from the free throw line in the game — finishing one shy of the school record for free throw attempts.

In an 81-57 win at Truman Saturday (Feb. 7), Rogers scored 18 points with nine rebounds and six blocked shots. He scored 11 points in the second half, going 7-of-8 at the foul line in the final 20 minutes.

Rogers is a graduate of Doniphan High School and was also honored as MIAA Athlete of the Week on December 1 and December 8.

The SBU Bearcats are back in action on Tuesday evening when host Emporia State in a 7:30 start.
