January 6, 2009 By admin Leave a Comment

Southwest Baptist’s D’Ante Harris has been selected as MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week.  Courtney Creed, a 5-foot-8 senior from Walnut Grove, MO was named the Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week.

Creed averaged 20.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.0 assists for the Bearcats as they posted a 2-1 mark in MIAA play last week, including a road upset of No. 9 Emporia State.

Harris, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound senior from Bossier City, La., averaged 15.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists as the third-ranked Bearcats moved to 12-0 with three conference wins last week.

He scored a season-high 22 points with seven rebounds in the 70-57 home win over Truman Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 31). He was 6-of-10 from the floor against the Bulldogs, 2-of-4 from three-point range and 8-of-11 at the foul line, while adding two assists and two steals.

In just 17 minutes of action against No. 10 Missouri Southern last Monday (Dec. 29), Harris scored 13 points on 5-of-7 from the field (3-of-4 from long range) while pulling in six rebounds and six assists.

Harris scored 11 points with three rebounds and three assists in the 104-69 win at Emporia State Saturday night (Jan. 3) — one of seven Bearcats to score in double-figures against the Hornets.
