Gay rights activists in Columbia want that city to become the fourth government in Missouri to recognize domestic partners.
Backers of a proposed ordinance say it would not legalize same-sex marriages, which are banned by the State Constitution, but would allow partners to take part in care decisions, burial arrangements, and other issues.
The St. Louis, Jackson County, and Kansas City governments recognize domestic partners.
