Missouri National Guard team returns from Afghanistan

December 24, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

The Missouri National Guard’s 935th Aviation Battalion has arrived home in Springfield after a year in Afghanistan.

Approximately 50 soldiers were part of the first ever agri-business team that went to Afghanistan to help farmers find ways to make a living. Returning soldiers say that while their mission was not related, in any way, to opium eradication, the Americans are presenting the Afghan farmers with options.

One operation saw the Missourians helping the Afghans to build a solar-powered well, giving them the water they need to grow two or three harvests of wheat every year.
