Ice on the Missouri River has stopped the state water patrol’s search for the body of a man who jumped from the I-70 Missouri River Bridge between Columbia and Jefferson City.

John-Paul Forget of Chesterfield went into the water a week ago today. He jumped off the to avoid getting hit by a truck. Forget was looking at a car he’d been riding in that was damaged in a wreck on the icy bridge road.

Water Patrol Sergeant Jerry Callahan says the patrol does not know when it can resume the search…

"With the ice flow  running from bank to bank we’re to the point where we’re having to do surface searches and even any dragging operations just is not possible," he says.

He says the patrol will have to decide sooner or later whether it’s worthwhile to maintain the search.
