McCaskill watchdog bill moves to House

December 10, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

Senator McCaskill thinks Congress is close to passing her watchdog bill that would set up an independent auditor of the way federal bailout money is spent in the financial sector and in the auto industry. She says Congress, and the nation, needs aggressive oversight of the way the Treasury Secretary is giving federal bailout money to the financial industry and the way congressional car loans are used.

"There are hundreds of billions of dollars that are being put at risk…and when we put that kind of money at risk on behalf of taxpayers we’ve got to have the most aggressive oversight possible," she says.

The Senate passed her bill last night. It’s the House’s turn next. McCaskill says she is confident Congress will finish work on the bill before it leaves.
