Taking a Holliday in Oakland

November 11, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

Trade talks between the Cardinals and the Colorado Rockies cooled off after the Rockies wanted Ryan Ludwick, Skip Schumacher and starting pitcher Mitchell Boggs for Matt Holliday.  Now he’s headed to Oakland.

The Rockies agree to send Holliday to the Oakland A’s for closer Huston Street, left-handed pitcher Greg Smith and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez.

This could still have an effect on the Cardinals. With Street figuring to become the closer for the Rockies, that would almost assure left handed reliever Brian Fuentes, will not be re-signed which could open the door for the Cardinals to make a run to shore up the left side of their bullpen.

Also, third base coach Jose Oquendo is one of seven candidates for the Seattle Mariner manager’s position.
