Jeff Wolfert University of Missouri senior placekicker Jeff Wolfert has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl. 

Semifinalists will be voted on by a panel consisting of all Division 1 coaches and sports information directors, along with national, regional and local football writers and others who will select the three finalists.  The winner will be announced on the  College Football Awards show aired on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 11 th .    

Wolfert, who nailed a game-winning 34-yard field goal in the final minutes last Saturday in Mizzou’s 31-28 win at Baylor, has made 13-of-17 field goals (76.5%) and a perfect 51-of-51 on extra points in 2008.  His per-game scoring average of 10.00 points currently ranks 2 nd in the Big 12 Conference and is 8 th -best in the NCAA.

A former walk-on who joined the team in 2005 after initially coming to Mizzou on a diving scholarship, Wolfert has established himself as one of the most accurate kickers in NCAA history.  Since taking over kicking duties in 2006, the Overland Park, Kan. native has made 215-of-225 (95.6%) combined kicks, which puts him on pace to break the NCAA career record of 93.3% set by UCLA’s John Lee from 1982-85.  Wolfert has made 163-of-163 extra points in his Tiger career, while making 52-of-62 field goals (83.9%).
