Joe the Candidate rallies democrats in Lee’s Summit. Joe Biden, the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate, tells a Jackson County audience that the United States cannot regain the trust of the world if it remains a divided country. He says the theme of unifying the nation has been something he and Barack Obama have shared, even when they ran against each other in the primaries.
"A country divided cannot lead the world," he told the audience at Longview Community College in Lee’s Summit. Biden says he knows most of the major world leaders. "One of the first things they ask me….is ‘are you as divided as you seem?" he said. Biden says they know a divided America can’t lead the world.
"The first step in regaining our respect in t he world entitling us to lead the world again is to end this war in Iraq, and end it we will. We will end it responsibly, but end it we will," he told the cheering crowd..
Biden renewed the Obama-Biden promise to cut taxes for the middle class, to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure, give tax breaks to corporations that stay in the United States, and develop an energy policy that frees the nation of foreign oil..
"American’s ready for this change. You’re ready for this change, I’m ready for this change. Barack Obama is ready. It’s our time. It’s our time. It’s America’s time," he shouted over the crowd’s cheers at the conclusion.
