The World Series wrapped up after a lengthy rain suspended game five, but the Phillies are the World Champs for 2008.  They beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4 games to 1.  I’m joined this week by big baseball lovers, Bob Priddy and Steve Walsh from the Missourinet.

I just want to start by saying, that while we’re going to talk about what’s wrong with the Fall Classic, there is so much that is right.  First, the Rays proved that you don’t need a big payroll to be successful.  You can build and field a team with good home grown talent.  The Rays, the Twins, the A’s.  Second, it’s a great story for either team, the underdog Rays, or the Phillies, most losses by a professional franchise, a city that has suffered without a championship since Dr. J and the 76’ers of 1983.  Third, the baseball itself was great.  Great pitching, timely hitting, 45 year old Jamie Moyer pitching, etc?

Yet despite all of this, people are quick to criticize the World Series.  That’s why I bring in these gentlemen to talk about some of these issues.
