Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder (R-MO) has put together a bipartisan group of legislators to ask Governor Matt Blunt (R-MO) to call a special session of the General Assembly, after next month’s general election, to address the issue of heating assistance for the elderly and low-income Missourians.

The special session would ensure that lawmakers can act quickly in providing $103-million in supplemental funds for LIHEAP – the Low Income Housing Assistance Program.

The supplemental Utilicare funds are normally taken up when the Legislature convenes in January. But Kinder wants the Governor to act now to ensure the funds are available before the cold winter months are upon us.

Asked whether he would go along with the Lieutenant Governor’s request, Governor Blunt said he would take the matter under advisement.
