The man a Dallas County Sheriff deputy shot earlier this week died this morning at a hospital in Springfield.

Investigators said the Sheriff, Mike Rackley, and two deputies went to a trailer east of Louisburg in Buffalo to serve warrants. Cory Scharp was not the target of the warrants, at the time, but quickly got the attention of the sheriff when Scharp flashed a knife, broke down a door and started toward Rackley who then fired shots. Rackley is on administrative leave while the Highway Patrol investigates.

Chief Deputy Henry Thiesen is acting sheriff.
