Jimmie Johnson held off an end of race push from Carl Edwards Sundday at Kansas Speedway, winning the race and moving into first place 10 points ahead of Edwards in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.

 

Edwards, who overcame a poor starting position had the top spot, but  lost it  to Johnson on a pit stop with 47 laps to go. He finally caught him again on the last lap, shooting past Johnson on the low side of the banked 1.5-mile oval in Turn 3.

Edwards lost control and bounced off the wall as Johnson passed him for his fifth victory of the season, while Edwards gained control of his car to cross the finish line in second.  Greg Biffle who entered the race tied for second in the Cup standings finished third to drop to third place overall, 35 points behind Johnson.

Edwards is in second place overall.  Edwards started back in 34 th after a poor qualifying run on Friday.
