Petit Jean Poultry plant to close, 400 jobs lost

September 25, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

The largest employer in the Southwest Missouri town of Buffalo will be closing its doors soon. The Petit Jean Poultry plant will close, leaving more than 400 people without a job.

The city tried to keep the doors to the factory open, said Mayor Jerry Hardesty. But the company was not interested.

The plant will close for good on October 2nd.

When the plant closes, water rates could increase by 40 percent because the Petit Jean Poultry plant is Buffalo’s biggest water customer.

Buffalo will hold a job fair on October 15 th and Hardesty said he will waive the entrance fee so residents can get in and try to find another job.
