Springfield will lose 200 jobs after Cargill completes consolidation at its turkey processing plant. Cargill bought the Willow Brook Foods production plant in March.

The high cost of animal feed is forcing the company to close the plant, said Spokesman Mark Klein.

"We’ll just consolidate those into existing plants and build up second shifts which will allow us to handle those higher costs better," he said.

Cargill cut 175 production jobs yesterday and will cut another 25 staff positions by the end of next week. The company will move the production jobs to California, Missouri, and Springdale, Arkansas.
