Bannister’s losing streak ends at nine with big win at Cleveland

September 14, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

Alex Gordon was back in the lineup for the Royals and collected two hits and Ryan Shealy went 3 for 5 with two home runs and five RBIs as Brian Bannister’s  winless streak of nine games over 13 starts came to an end as the Royals thump the Indians 13-3.

It looked like it was going to be Bannister’s 10 th loss in a row as he gave up three runs in the first inning.  After that, Bannister would pitch the next five innings scoreless to improve to 8-15.  After the shaky first, the Royals offense took over.

Shealy homered in the 2 nd , a solo shot and would later add another in a four run eighth inning.  The big blow came in the fourth.  With the score tied 3-3, the Royals put four on the board after two outs.  Singles by Esteban German and Mike Aviles, followed by an Alberto Callapso walked, set up a two out single by David DeJesus which scored two off reliever Edward Mujica.  Then Jose Guillen followed with a double off of Juan Rincon to score Callapso and DeJesus.

The Royals now head to Seattle after taking three of four from Cleveland.
