David DeJesus lined the first pitch he saw from Twins’ reliever Dennys Reyes breaking a 2-2 tie in the 10th inning as the Royals avoid a sweep by holding on for the 3-2 win.  Joakim Soria picked up his 36th save.

It looked like this could be a high scoring affair, but starters Brandon Duckworth and Francisco Liriano settled down after the first couple of innings.

Minnesota got on the board first on Justin Morneau’s RBI double off in the first inning. The Royals came back in the second with an RBI double by Esteban German off Liriano.

Minnesota went back up with a Carlos Gomez single in the bottom of the second, but Kansas City quickly retied the game on Jose Guillen’s RBI double in the third.

The game would stay tied until the 10th, thanks to great bullpen work by the Royals.  Alberto Callapso and Mark Teahen singled off Matt Guerrier.  That’s when teh lefty Reyes was brought in to face DeJesus who hit the first pitch he saw.

Joakim Soria pitched a perfect 9th to pick up his 36th save, while striking out one.
