The St. Louis Cardinals just need to chalk this up as just one of those days.  While insisting the team didn’t come out flat, the Cardinals must find a way to bounce back from Tuesday’s 12-0 loss.

Brewers starter Ben Sheets won for just the second time since July 4 th , going seven innings and keeping the Cardinal bats relatively quiet.  Skip Schumaker had a triple, but St. Louis stranded seven runners in the game.

Todd Wellemeyer was battling himself almost as much as the Brewers.  Despite working into some trouble, he kept the Brewers to just three runs until Ryan Braun hit his 33 rd home run of the year to open up a 5-0 lead.

The Brewers went back to work in the 9 th , scoring seven times off Brad Thompson and Jaime Garcia.

Tony LaRussa says this series is big, but it will not determine who goes to the playoffs.  While he may be mathematically correct, a loss on Wednesday would drop the Cardinals 5.5 behind Milwaukee for the Wild Card.
