The runner-up in the Democratic Attorney General race will formally ask Secretary of State Robin Carnahan for a recount. Margaret Donnelly, who lost to Chris Koster by only 780 votes, confirms the paperwork is being prepared for the formal request.

Missouri law allows any candidate who loses by one percentage point or less of the total votes cast in an election to request a recount free of charge. The 780 votes amount to less than one-quarter-of-one percent of the votes cast. The formal request must be made within seven days of Thursday’s certification of the vote totals by the Secretary of State.
