The Cardinals bats came back to life last night getting a split with the Pirates winning 11-2.  Rick Ankiel hit his 24 th homer to break a 2-2 tie in the third and all the big guys contributed.

Troy Glaus, Albert Pujols and Ryan Ludwick all drove in runs.  The Cardinals scored runs in the second, third and fourth innings.  With a 2-0 lead, Todd Wellemeyer, who picked up his 11 th win, gave up a two run homer to Ryan Doumit to tie the score at 2-2.  In the bottom of the third, the Cardinals answered right back with Ankiel’s blast.

Wellemeyer never had an easy inning, but limited the damage to just that two run homer.  Skip Schumaker went 3 for 4 and Ryan Ludwick picked up his team leading 94 th RBI.

The Cardinals remain two and a half games behind Milwaukee in the Wild Card.  It’s an off day today, then the Braves are in town and Adam Wainwright will make his first start since June 7 th when he won at Houston.  This tells me the Cardinals don’t expect a return anytime soon from Chris Carpenter.
