A Southwest Missouri county plans to put a 10 percent cabaret tax on the November ballot.

Jasper County is putting the finishing touches on paperwork for the up to 10 percent tax that would only apply to strip clubs. Presiding commissioner John Bartosh said he hopes the tax would further deter sexually orientated businesses from setting up inside county lines.

The lawyer of a local adult video store said the county may be overstepping its authority. State Representative Brian Stevenson voiced his support for the tax. He said he’s working with house and senate colleagues in the capital to broaden county authority on the issue.
