Tony Pena, who was supposed to be the Royals everyday starting short stop, but has struggled through a .148 batting average this season came through big with two hits including the game winnng in the bottom of the 12th as the Royals beat the Twins 5-4.Pena scored the tying run in the 8th, then made a great defensive play to keep the game tied in the 11th, then delivered his first walk-off hit.Royals’ starter Gil Meche went 6.1 innings, and the bullpen of Ramon Ramirez, Joakim Soria, and Leo Nunez did the job keeping down the Twins offense for five innings.Mark Teahen went 3 for 5 and recently recalled Mitch Maier went 2 for 6, who is hitting .310 since being called up. You can’t help but get excited about young players like Maier and Mike Aviles who is hitting .335 in the leadoff spot since taking over for Pena as the everyday shortstop.
