Chiefs happy to hit someone else

August 1, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

It’s tough to gauge just how well your team is going to do in a non-tackle scrimmage, but one thing for sure the Chiefs were happy to have some contact with another team.

Head coach Herm Edwards kept an eye on the offense and overall was pretty happy with what he saw. He thought the competition between the Chiefs and Vikings was productive and will be able to evaluate the scrimmage more after watching film.

A couple of Chiefs got banged up.  Donnie Avery tweaked a hamstring and running back Kolby Smith tweaked his groin, but neither injury appears to be serious.  Offensive tackle Brandon Albert, one of the Chiefs first round picks hurt his ankle and while injury isn’t serious, Edwards was disappointed that Albert couldn’t get time against another team.

Running back Larry Johnson felt good and saw some nice holes open up for him to run through.  While many of the Viking starters were not on the field, including former Chief Jared Allen, Johnson was impressed with his offensive line.

Tight end Tony Gonzalez knows the running game is ahead of the passing game at this point, but it’s still hard to gauge how everything will shake out until they play Chicago next Thursday.
