Albert Pujols hit his 19 th home run of the season, his first since July 4 th and the Cardinals win in 14 innings at Shea Stadium beating the Mets 10-8.  Skip Schumaker also became the first Redbird in 73 years to record six hits in one game.

If was a typically Cardinals game.  Score early and hold onto a lead late in the game only to have the opposition come back.  Luckily in this case, all the Mets could do was tie the game at eight scoring one run off Ryan Franklin who has now blown six saves since becoming the closer.

The Cardinals gave Joel Pineiro a quick 4-0 cushion after their first at bats, but the Mets over the next four innings built a 5-4 lead.  Once again, the Cardinals responded in the 6th with another four runs.  The Mets would pull to within one by scoring again in the bottom half of the sixth.

Former Cardinal Fernando Tatis hit a home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth and the game would go to the 14 th when Pujols would homer off Aaron Heilman after Schumaker collected his sixth hit of the night.

The Cardinals remain three back of Chicago and Milwaukee who tied the Cubs for first in the NL Central.
