The Royals threw one away, losing to Seattle 4-3.  With the game tied at 3 in the 9 th , catcher John Buck overthrew Alex Gordon after they caught Adrian Beltre in a rundown, that led to the winning run.

Kyle Davies pitched well, but gave up a two run homer in 7th, second guessing throwing a changeup to Jeff Clement, a .159 hitter.

The Royals were trailing 3-2, but battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the 7 th .  A questionable decision though by David DeJesus with runners on first and second, he bunted and sacrificied the runners over into scoring position.  He leads the majors hitting .460 with runners in scoring position.  Manager Trey Hillman said DeJesus did that on his own.  The Royals could only get one run in to tie, setting up the 9 th inning meltdown with Joakim Soria on the mound.

Beltre was on third and broke for home on contact on a grounder to Mike Aviles.  As he threw home to Buck, Beltre turned and headed back to third and that’s when Buck tried to take something off the ball and sailed it over Gordon’s head.

The Royals finish 43-53 at the All-star break, 12 games out of first place, but not in last as the Indians hold that distinction.  Mark Teahen has been around awhile and likes the direction the team is headed.  Mike Aviles, one of the sparks for this team late in the first says the Royals expect to win.
