The fight over a Ten Commandments poster displayed in one Southwest Missouri Circuit clerk’s office is over without going to court. Greene County circuit clerk Steve Helms says he’d had the poster up in his office for about three months before Gary Wright of Springfield saw it and threatened to sue.

"It’s disappointing that we live in a society that’s so politically correct," Helms said. "I don’t want to offend anybody and as a public official I will do what’s right."

Helms initially said he wanted to fight to keep displaying the poster, but after consulting with defense attorneys decided to remove it to a private location.

"The reason I removed the poster is because my intent was to not even get to this point and I do not want to cost the taxpayers any money," Helms said.
