Joel Pineiro pitched six and a third scoreless innings to pick up his first win in nearly ten weeks as the Cardinals shut down the Phillies with a 2-0 shutout against one of the better hitting teams in the NL.
Rick Ankiel homered in the 5 th and all star Ryan Ludwick hit a 450 foot bomb to left center in the 6 th off starter Cole Hamels, who I think should be an all-star.
Pineiro worked out a jam in the second inning, then ran into trouble in the seventh, and Tony LaRussa made a difficult decision taking Pineiro out of the game with runners on first and second and one out. LaRussa turned to Ron Villone who got catcher Chris Coste to ground into a double play. Kyle McClellan pitched a scoreless eighth and Ryan Franklin picked up his 12 th save.
