Zack Greinke pitched well, allowing two runs over six innings, but once again, early runs proved costly, as the Royals were unable to get any offense going against Andy Sonnanstine and the Rays.

Kansas City finished with just five hits as Sonnanstine allowed only one multi-hit inning, as he picked up his 10 th win of the year.

The early runs caught up to Greinke who finished with seven strikeouts, but after allowing a pair of singles to start the 2 nd inning, Greinke struck out the next two Tampa Bay batters and looked like he may get out of the early jam, but Akinori Iwamura lined a two-out hit just outside the reach of center fielder Joey Gathright, scoring two runs.
