The Cardinals broke a 2-2 tie in the 6 th inning scoring three times, then adding three more in the 7 th as the Cards take game one of this interleague series with Detroit winning 8-4.

Cardinal’s starter Braden Looper picked up his 9 th win of the year despite giving up three home runs in six plus innings.  Ivan Rodriquez and Miguel Cabrera hit solo homers and Gary Sheffield chase Looper in the 7 th with a two run shot, but the story of the night was the St. Louis offense.

Brian Barton went 2 for 5 with a double and home run and Yadier Molina added three hits as the Cardinals chased Tiger starter Kenny Rogers in that big sixth inning.

Molina doubled to lead off the sixth and with one out, Adam Kennedy who was playing first base singled scoring Molina.  After Rogers was lifted for Freddy Dolsi, Skip Schumaker singled to drive in two more runs.

The Cubs finally lost at Wrigley, snapping a 14 game home winning streak, so their lead is back to 3.5 over the Cardinals.
