Katie Smith stepping down as State Ag Director

June 25, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

There is soon to be a new person heading the State Agriculture Department.  Governor Matt Blunt (R-MO) has appointed former State Representative Don Steen to replace Katie Smith, who – according to a press release – is stepping down in anticipation of an expanding family.

Steen, a 58-year-old native of Eldon, has an extensive agricultural background. His family has been in the turkey business for 35 years and also raises cattle. He has a bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Missouri.

Steen served in the Legislature from 1990-1998. His appointment, which takes effect July 7th, is subject to Senate confirmation.
