Cardinals roll in Dice-K return

June 22, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

Aaron Miles, Troy Glaus, and Rick Ankiel homered as the Cardinals have done something no team had done yet this year…beat Boston in a series at Fenway Park.  The Cardinals won 9-3 and now look for the sweep.

The Cardinals tagged Sox starter Dice-K Matsusaka with seven earned run in one inning of work as St. Louis scored eight times in the first two innings.  Aaron Miles homered in the 1 st off of Dice-K who was making his first start since coming off the DL.

Then after facing three batters in the 2 nd before being lifted, Sox reliever Chris Smith making his major league debut gave up a grand slam to Troy Glaus as the ball just cleared the Green Monster in left giving the Cardinals an 8-0 lead.

Rick Ankiel added a solo shot later in the game, plenty runs for Mitchell Boggs to pick up his second win as he went 5.1 for the easy victory.

The Cards remain 3.5 games behind the Cubs who won their 13 th straight at home.

Gil Meche pitched 5.2 innings and shortstop Mike Aviles had three hits and Jose Guillen added a home run as the Royals beat the Giants 5-3 to even their series.
