Royals skin Snakes 12-3

The Kansas City Royals storm back from an extra inning loss on Friday in which KC was held scoreless to pummel Arizona Diamondback pitching on Saturday, scoring 12 runs on 17 hits for a 12-3 stomping of the Snakes at Chase Field in Phoenix.

A number of Royals shared "hitting hero" honors. John Buck drove in 3 runs, all of them coming on a 3-run homer off Arizona starter Randy Johnson. Mike Aviles went 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBIs. David DeJesus has a solo home run and 2 runs batted in.

KC starter and winner Luke Hochevar (4-5) pitched 7 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 10 hits while striking out 6. Johnson (4-4) took the loss, lasting only 4.1 innings as he gave up 7 earned runs on 10 hits.

The Royals (27-42) and the Diamondbacks (37-32) wrap up their weekend series Sunday afternoon at Chase Field. Gil Meche (3-8) starts for the Royals against Arizona’s Micah Owings (6-4).
