Gil Meche held the Arizona Diamondbacks hitless through the first four innings and David DeJesus powered the Royals with a grand slam and five RBI as the Royals take two out of the three from the NL West leading D-backs.

Meche pitched 7.1 innings and gave up three runs on four hits, but was baffling Arizona hitters most of the day as Meche finished with 10 strikeouts.  It was a relief for manager Trey Hillman to see Meche work out of his early season funk by getting back into his old form of last year.

The at-bat of the game came in the fourth inning.  The Royals had a 1-0 lead and loaded the bases with two outs when Meche helped his own cause by singling in Jose Guillen who doubled to lead off the innings.  This came after D-backs start Micah Owings hit catcher John Buck to load the bases.  That set up DeJesus blast to right-center field to clear the bases.
