A 1-0 victory for Arizona followed a tenth-inning homer off the bat of Chad Tracy, and the KC loss spoiled a good outing from Zack Grienke. Grienke went seven innings, giving up three hits and seven walks while striking out five.
Yasuhiko Yabuta (1-2) was charged with the loss.
Mark Grudzielanek, Alex Gordon and Joey Gathright picked up six of the Royals seven base-knocks, but timely hits avoided KC’s lumber. They mustered just one hit in the game’s final three innings.
