Todd Wellemeyer continues his career year for the Cardinals.

Wellemeyer (6-1) pitched seven strong innings of ball against the Pirates last night, limiting the Buccos to one run on six hits while striking out four in the Redbirds 5-4 win.

Prospect Joe Mather made his major league debut for the Cardinals, and it is one he will not soon forget.  The outfielder singled and made a diving catch to rob Adam LaRoche of a run-scoring extra-base hit in the second inning.  The highlight kept the game knotted at zero, but the catch is not the only thing he will remember.  The home crowd gave him a standing ovation when he came to the plate in the first inning.
