Royals streak comes to an end

May 18, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

The Royals five game losing streak came to a crashing halt as the Marlins beat the Royals 7-3.  Brian Bannister and Ron Mahay gave up home runs in a big 7 th inning.

Jose Guillen continuing to swing a hot bat, hit a two double off of Greg Olsen coming in the third to drive in Mark Grudzielanek and Alex Gordon.  That hit extended Guillen’s hitting streak to nine games. He’s 17-for-34 — batting .500 with 11 RBIs. His average is up to .239 from .165.

Royals starter Brian Bannister took a 3-2 lead into the seventh inning. But Luis Gonzalez singled and Mike Rabelo walked and while manager Trey Hillman thought he was strong enough, Bannister said he was tiring.  Marlins’ Wes Helms, batting in the pitcher’s spot, hit a three run homer.  Then Bannister gave way to Ron Mahay after giving up a single to Jeremy Hermida, who gave up a two run homer to Mike Jacobs to make it 7-3.

Jacobs also caused more harm earlier in the 4 th , when he hit a deep drive to the gap.  Joey Gathright and David DeJesus collided in right center.  Both players were O.K., but Gathright said his shoulder dislocated but popped back in.
