Tornado touches down in Shelby County

May 13, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

A severe thunderstorm appears to have produced several funnel clouds in the Shelby and Monroe County areas this morning.  Only one is reported to have touched down, and no significant damage has been found so far.  The National Weather Service Office in St. Louis issued a tornado warning just after 10 this morning for Shelby County. Shelbina Police Officer, Steven Kelley says he saw a twister on the ground.

"I was out on 36 and I seen me a tornado touch down west of South Shelby High School.  I watched maybe two or three minutes," said Kelley, "It went in a straight line, looked like it was headed northeast a little bit."

Tornado sirens also sounded in Monroe City, but so far there have been no reports that a tornado touched down there.
