Check out Ankiel’s arm

May 7, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

Rick Ankiel during a game earlier this year (Bill Greenblatt, UPI)

Not only did Rick Ankiel hit his sixth home run of the year, but he also flashed his arm by throwing two runners out at third base.  The first, in the first was when Willie Tavares, one of the fastest runners in baseball got thrown out tagging up from 2 nd to 3 rd .  In the 8 th inning. Omar Quintanilla hit a double to left center.  Tried to stretch it to a triple.  Ankiel was standing at the warning track and nailed Quintanilla.  With the deep outfield at Coors field, that has to be close to a 300 foot throw.

He couldn’t throw strikes as a pitcher, but he threw two yesterday.  Our news director Bob Priddy joked when he said that was Ankiel’s problem, home plate was too close to the pitcher’s mound!
