Blunt signs bill to address teaching shortages

May 1, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

Governor Matt Blunt (R-MO) has signed into law SB 1066 , legislation that would allow those without teaching certificates to use their practical experience to instruct young people in schools. It is also aimed at helping the state to fill the shortage of qualified math and science teachers.

The alternative teacher certification process will authorize the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence to train and certify teachers for Missouri classrooms, where there is a need for math and science instructors.

Alternative certification will not be granted in the areas of early childhood education, elementary education, or special education.
